Social Networking

If accessing Facebook from a public WiFi such as in a restaurant or hotel, text "opt" to 32665 to receive a one time password to your account.

Zuckerberg's Privacy Stance: Facebook CEO 'Doesn't Believe In Privacy'. Keep this imnformation in mind when you post on a social networking site.

Many references including a video, white paper, and links to journal articles with guidelines for professional social networking from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

Journal of Internet Medical Research, 10. : “Medicine 2.0” applications, services, and tools are defined as Web-based services for health care consumers, caregivers, patients, health professionals, and biomedical researchers, that use Web 2.0 technologies and/or semantic web and virtual reality approaches to enable and facilitate specifically 1) social networking, 2) participation, 3) apomediation, 4) openness, and 5) collaboration, within and between these user groups."

Parents Guide to Facebook by Anne Collier and Larry Magid, co-Directors, ConnectSafely.org. Provides help to understand what Facebook is and how to use it safely and how to communicate with young Facebook users more effectively. The guidebook is published in partnership with the iKeepSafe Coalition.The 34-page guide (PDF) which was updated December 2010 can be either read or printed out.

This site presents a great overview of social networking, what it is, how they work, and the ideas behind them.
