Crossing the International Date Line (January 29, 2017)

We lost Monday, January 30th, crossing the date line. In actuality we should have lost Feb 1 instead, but the ship set its own rules. In our little world as long as we are all on the same day and time it matters little. The International Date Line is roughly at 180 degrees latitude, but with digressions for various countries.

There was not a big deal made of this except that we set our clocks forward 23 hours, or in reality 1 hour back and a day forward. Followed the next day by again setting the clock back an hour. All these date changes and 25 hour days are leaving us all a little disoriented.

International Date Line

There is a mistake in the above. The circled area was originally set so that when Vandeberg Air Force Base sent Missles to these parts there would be no confusion about the day. In 1994 the international Date Line was returned to what you see in the top map.
