Expanding Find and Replace in Word
To open the Find dialog box, tap Ctrl+F (Incidentally this is a universal Windows way to open a Find dialog box in all programs!)
Note that one can use wildcards which act like a joker, that is they can be used to designate anything. Generally an asterisk (*) substitutes for many characters. For example, if in my document I want to find an instance of either nurses, nursing, or nurse, I would click the Wildcard option (see below) and enter nurs*. This would find the next instance of any word beginning with "nurs" This wildcard can also be used at the beginning of a word.
To use a substitute for one character, use the question mark (?). It must, however, be entered in the exact place in the word where the unknown character is. To find a name that you know is either Mortensen or Mortenson, you would enter Mortens?n
