Making Word's spell and grammar checker check work as you write assures that errors you have made will not be missed. You may or may not want to attend to the errors it finds while you are writing, it is sometimes easier to finish your thought then go back and see what errors Word thinks you have made. When professors or editors see grammar or spelling errors it indicates that the writer does not care enough to correct their work. To make this feature work as you write:
Click on the File Tab.
On the drop down menu, click Help
Under Help, click Options
Click Proofing
Just below the middle of that page you will see "When correcting spelling and grammar in Word."
Under that make your choices.
