Zipping or Compressing a File
One of the main reasons to "zip" a file is for emailing it as an attachment. A text file from a word processor will easily compress, a Power Point file or any file with images will not compress very much if at all. For image files you may wish to break them up into smaller files before sending as an attachment.
Windows has its own zipping and unzipping file that you can use. Click Start>Help and support and enter "compress a file" in the search box.
- In XP Select Compress a file or folder on an NTFS drive.
- In VISTA select Compress and uncompress files (zip files.)
Or you can purchase more sophisticated file compression software by searching on the Web for zip software.
