Downloading and Using a Web Page or Image

(Most of the files that are downloaded from the Web are in HTML format thus once downloaded you can easily open them in your browser using the "open" command under file.)

Downloading a Text File From the Web

Most Web pages have images for text. These images are not part of the Web page and if you wish to download them along with the text, you must use Web page complete to save the page. To do this:

  1. Have the window with the file you wish to use as the active window.
  2. Depending on your browser:
    1. In Firefox Click on "File>Save Complete Page."
    2. In Internet Explorer click File>Save As
      1. In the bottom of the window, click the down triangle next to Save as type.
      2. Select Webpage complete.
  3. Note the name of the folder where the document is going and the name of the file. The folder will be listed next to "save in" and the name will be at the bottom of that pop up window. You may want to write this down.
  4. Click on Save

Downloading an Image

  1. Place your mouse pointer on the image you wish to download.
  2. Right click.
  3. Depending on your browser, click on "Save Image As..." or "Save Picture As..." or "Save Target As..."
  4. Note the name of the folder where the document is going and the name of the file. The folder will be listed next to "save in" and the name will be at the bottom of that pop up window. You may want to write this down.
  5. Click on Save

 

 

Opening a Text File Downloaded From the Web

  1. Open your Browser
  2. Click on File>Open File or just File>Open if using Firefox.
  3. Enter the name of the folder and file, or click on Browse and locate the file.
  4. Click on Open.
  5. Click on Open or "OK" depending on your browser.
  6. If you can't find the file, use the find file option.

 

Opening an Image File Downloaded from the Web

To open an image saved from the Web requires a graphics program. This can be a camera program, a presentation program, or even a word processing program.

  1. Open the program where you want the image.
  2. Click on Insert>Picture>From File
  3. Browse the folders to find the file and click Insert. (If using images be sure that you are not violating copyright.)
