Finding a File with Windows 95 & 98

How to Find a File in Windows 95/98
There are three ways you can look for a file. The first two steps
and the last one are the same for all.
To start looking:
- Click on the Start Button
- Click on Find> "Files or Folders"
- The screen to the right appears.
To search by:
Name
- Be sure the Name & Location tab is open, if not, click on that tab.
- In the "Look In" box enter the name of the drive where the file
you are looking for is. Unless you
have
previously used this feature it is probably C: or C:\Start. If the information
in that box does not read C:, ,just type it in. (Don't forget the colon.)
- In the Named: box. type in the name of your document, or words that are
in the name (Of course substitute
the real name!). In this example, the word "Computer"
was in the name.
- Theoretically, instead of the file name, you can enter something contained
in the file in the "Containing text:" box, but it does not always
work correctly.
- Click on "Find Now" and eventually you will see the screen
below. You may need to maximize it to see all the items.

Date
- Click on the Date Tab

- Click on "Between" and enter the dates. If it is just one day,
enter the same date in both boxes.
- Click on "Find Now" and eventually you will see the screen
below. You may need to maximize it to see all the items.

File Type (or size if you know it)
Click on Advanced
Click on the triangle to the right of the box labeled "of type"
Select the program that created the file. Keep in mind that this will find
ALL the files that were created with that program.
Click on "Find Now" and eventually you will see the screen
below. You may need to maximize it to see all the items.

.
Double click on the appropriate file name to open the file.
